Onur Karalı
Software Engineer at Booking.com. Science, tech and philosophy enthusiast.
2025. Eindhoven, Netherlands
I was born in 1984 in Bayat, a remote town in central Turkey. My curiosity about science began with Junior Larousse encyclopedias, while growing up in a self-sufficient community shaped my practical approach to problem-solving.
I earned my BSc and MSc degrees from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at METU, specializing in image processing, machine learning, and software development. My career has taken me through R&D engineering roles at TUBITAK and Roketsan, and software engineering positions at Nokta, Amazon, and TomTom. Currently, I work as a Software Development Engineer at Booking.com.
Professionally, I work with C++, Java, and JavaScript. In my personal projects, I explore Python, R, Dart, PHP, and Kotlin as needed. I enjoy competitive programming challenges and stay current with developments in machine learning and cloud computing. I'm also the founder of Omelas, where I built Caleido—a social platform connecting people through shared experiences in art, literature, cinema, and music.
Outside of work, I spend time with family and friends, read daily, listen to music, and enjoy hiking and traveling.
